House of Bricks Reflection

Kia Ora

Last Friday we did something called House of Bricks. There were three activates. They mosaics, pass the bricks and the designing the cars. I really enjoyed doing this.

My favourite Lego activity was the mosaics because I decided to create a really big one with Saffy and Lily. We decided to create a beach. The beach included sand, grass, water and a shipwreck.

My least favourite Lego activity was pass the bricks because I didn’t like seeing my creation going round and getting changed into ways I didn’t like.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was designing the cars because Georgia and I were in a peer group and it only went a very short distance. I learnt that it depends on the length of your car.

The most challenging activity was designing the cars because it was really hard to create the right design and everytime Georgia and I needed to change something.

I enjoyed working collaboratively with others because it meant that we could get stuff done quicker and that we could all be doing something instead of having all the pressure on ourselves.

Brilliant Burger

 Kia Ora everyone

This week was Social  Justice so we made some creations about Beatitudes. and what they are. I made a burger showing what all the Beatitudes The beatitudes are: Poor in Spirit, Morn, Meek, Righteousness, Merciful, Pure in Heart, Peace Makers and the persecuted. All the Beatitudes are represented by an animal. Here is my work:

What Beatitude do you display?

Wondrous Writing

 HI everybody

Are you sacred of an animal of some sort like dogs, cats or even rabbits? So I wrote a persuasive text to try to help change that. My learning goal this week was to Vary sentence beginnings, structures and length. Write simple and compound sentences (by using conjunctions). Use some complex sentences. Use simple and compound sentences with a variety of beginnings, lengths and structures. Use some complex sentences to create pace, flow and interest. Use linking words and phrases to link some paragraphs.

Here is my work and I hope I have persuade you that pets should not be allowed in school.

What is your favourite animal?

Pets should not be allowed in school

Are you scared of dogs or any other animal? I’m going to tell you that animals should definitely not be allowed in school.

Firstly, having an animal could distract kids from their learning. Kids need to learn. Although animals are cute they're going to be distractive. Do you want an animal distracting you all day and chewing on your stuff?

Secondly, animals need a lot of attention. Like they need to be fed and they also need exercise. If kids are doing all that, when are they going to have time to do work?

Last of all, some kids might have allergies. That wouldn’t be good. It wouldn’t help because if animals are roaming free they could have a reaction and not be able to concentrate.

You will definitely agree with me that pets should not be allowed in school. Animals will distract children from their learning, they need a lot of attention and some people might have allergies. That is why I strongly agree that pets should not be allowed in school.

what is your Hobby?

Fraction Time!

 Kia Ora everybody

Welcome to this post

This week I was in lock down and I created this pick-a-path on fractions.  A pick-a-path is little quiz except it is created on a google slide. My goal this week was to:Use multiplication and division strategies to find fractions of whole numbers.  In my Pick-a-path I explained what strategies I was using and how to do it. Fractions are when you have a number like 48 and you have 6 friends but one friend didn't come but you are going to cut the cake for your friends into 6 pieces and you give out 5 pieces so dived 48 by 6 = 40. What do you know about fractions?

Use multiplication and division strategies to find fractions of whole numbers.

Greatest Graphs

Hi everyone

I hope you all had a good holiday.

In this post I would like to teach you about graphs. This week in maths we created graphs. My Goal this week is to display data using a stem and leaf graph, choose an appropriate data, display using more than one variable, interpret information from graphs plan an investigation. At the start of maths we all sat in the middle space and we went team by team. When your month was called you would stand up. I am the only person in my month. After that we went off into other spaces and made a copy of the spreadsheet and created our own graphs using the data we collected. I made two different types of graphs. It took me a while to decide what graph I should do. The two graphs couldn't be the same. when I finished I had to write to statements about my graphs. Next I cheeked in with the teacher and decided to blog my google drawing that is below.

Do you know how to created a graph?

Magnificent Margret Mahy

 Tumu town trip

Kia Ora everyone welcome to this post.

Hi everyone, a few weeks ago my hub and I went on a trip to Margret Mahy playground. While we were there we learnt about a storyline on the ground in Margret Mahy playground. Some of the mats that are in the ground, how to row a waka and finally we learnt about Victoria Square.

Tumu town trip

On Thursday the 20th of May Tumu hub went on a trip to Margret Mahy playground. While we were there we did four rotations. We spent the whole day there and were back at school by 2:10.

The first rotation was Margaret Mahy. The first thing I did was go on a scavenger hunt and find certain things. The next thing that we looked at was the story that was embedded into the concrete. When we were coming to the end there were some native plants and words of Elise Lock.

The second rotains was looking at the mats and Feeding the tuna. The mats in the ground are made out of concrete and bricks with a wire rim around it. They made it like this so if there was an earthquake then they would be able to move it to a different location. We saw teo mats and then we got to feed the Tuna. I saw one Tuna but it wasn’t keen on getting any food so we just let the food drop and then went off for a play.

The third rotation was getting to ride on the waka. I learnt how to row the waka and some te reo commands. There were some boys who kept on flicking water up and I got soaked. Did you know that the white bit of the oar doesn't touch the ground.

The last rotation was Victoria Square. At Victoria Square there are statues of Captain James Cook and of Queen Victoria. There are two fountains that were in the shape of daffodils and another one that was donated by H.L Bowker. There were three mats there that stood for water resources and health, Food and resources and the nine trees that made the Ngā Tāhu claim. The reason why we went there was to help us get a deeper connection with P.B.L.

My favourite part of the trip was the waka because it required some effort. I also liked it because It was a team and if someone was tired then you could take a breath. It was also really fun going under the bridge and seeing what was in the water.

Something I learnt was that all the mats mean a different thing than the one at Margaret Mahy  meant children and family.

The thing I found the most interesting was Victoria Square because it had heaps of history and Maori designs. It also had heaps of things to contribute to our culture.

This trip has helped me with my PBL because now I have a better understanding of where we are from and that we need to protect it. It has helped me think of Ideas of things we could maybe put into our school.

Have you ever been on a waka?

 Kia Ora Bloggers

Welcome back to an awesome post. This week in Maths I learnt how to use Place value, doubling and halving and finally compensating to help me solve multiplication and division. My learning goal was to: use a broad range of strategies to solve multiplication and division problems with whole numbers.  If you wanted to do place value and you had a number like 234x2=, the way you would do it is that do the hundreds, tens then ones x that number next you would add them together to get the answer.

What is you favourite strategy to use when solving problems ?
